‘ Gbesoke ,gbesokee,
komolee …’ Most people are familiar with this line and for those that party on
a regular , You know that a clubbing experience isn’t complete without hearing
it blaring from the speakers or any
other song by ‘Star Boy’ a.k.a Wizkid .The young
singer since his debut has shown no sign
of slowing down.Currently on a tour in the UK with his EME counterparts, wizkid
has continued to entertain his fans.

Ibrahim Balogun , wizkid hit the music scene with the smash hit single
“Holla at your boy” in 2010.The song was well received by fans and in no
time was topping charts .Not too long
after ,he dropped ” tease me” and “don’t dull ”. Although he has faced heavy criticisms severally as some
just can’t seem to hath what
the whole ‘wizkid fuss’ is about. Some think he has no talent and doesn’t deserve
to be called a musician LOL .
Yet the gods have deemed it fit to ensure that his fan base keeps increasing and the hits
keep dropping.*straight face*
Actually I think he is quite talented and he is good at what
he does. And so far so good he
is the only one that can do what he does , even though people
with similar styles have come out of the wood works in recent times .
That been said if it isn’t wizkid err.. its just not Wizkid *ghen ghen*. He doesn’t come
off as trying to be more than what he is, he is not trying to be an ‘Asa’ or a
“Bez’ .He has chosen his style of music and so far he is sticking to it and it is working. One unique thing about Wizkid is that when he is
featured on a particular track, he tends to dominate and it’s very easy to
mistake the song as his. This happens most times, for example
this was the case in ‘familiarity’ with JayRu, in ‘girl’ with Bracket and in ‘olofofo’ with Ice prince.

When it comes to awards, wizkid has been nominated severally both locally and
internationally. In fact last year he won a MOBO award for the best African act
beating heavy weights like Dbanj and Seun Kuti among others. He has recently
been nominated for both BET and NEA awards holding later in the year.
A profile on Wizkid is incomplete without mentioning his
much talked about debut album ‘superstar’. After several months of
anticipation, His album was released last year and there were mixed emotions. As much as
some of the songs on the album were not fresh because we had heard them over and over again, the
album overall was not a bad debut effort and it is safe to say by all indications that the album was a runaway success.
Yes, Wizkid’s career so far has been a great one but he stands
the risk of fading out in no time if he grows complacent as a result of his new found success. I for one
sincerely hope that his sophomore
album will break the
proverbial jinx and silence his 'naysayers'. To his fans out there, be
prepared a new album is coming out
soon, but it’s an ‘EME’ album not a solo one. But at least we will have a
chance to hear Wizkid and determine whether he is indeed a ‘superstar ‘or his
‘15mins of fame’ is gradually coming to an end.
