Popular Nigerian radio personality Dj Freeze of 96.9 Cool FM Lagos made a short trip to the UK for the sold out AY Live show held at the Indigo2. During His short stint in London he caught up with the Factory78tv crew to touch on the happenings in the Nigerian music game. Known for not holding anything back, the charismatic Freeze talked on sensitive subjects like the Mohits break-up ,others like his pride at how the industry has grown and most importantly he named his top 5 Nigerian artistes and why. With the music scene littered with dozens of music stars at the moment, here is Freeze naming his present top 5 Nigerian musicians and why he went with each artiste.

5. Ice Prince: (No comment)

4. Wizkid: Freeze says the 22-year-old EME pop singer is ‘great’ and hardworking but takes fourth position because he feels he is not really in touch with his reality as compared to Davido.

3. Davido: Freeze explains he is placing Davido a step higher than Wizzy because he feels the 20-year-old is more in touch with his reality as a musician making reference to the ‘All of you’ track the singer recorded on his debut album.

2. 2face and Psquare: Freeze says Mr Idibia and the pop duo tie on his number two position – while not making further comments on Peter and Paul Okoye, he does have a few words for 2face.

Freeze says 2face is a ‘talented musician’, makes brilliant music although he doesn’t understand his recent songs that have to do with ‘freedom fighting’, ’2face is meek like Moses in the Bible’, Freeze says. ‘He is also an inspiration to the generation, contributing his quota to making sure the next generation is not underpopulated‘, he jokes.

1. D’banj: Freeze places D’banj in number one spot. His reason? ‘I think he has gone through a lot, signing with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music’, Freeze explains and continues by giving props to The Entertainer’s former label partner Don Jazzy.

Freeze also makes reference to faded stars like Style Plus, The Remedies and Eedris Abdulkareem but then dampens the reminiscence by saying he’s ‘not here to resurrect any careers’.
