Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has criticized what he described as double standards in the way political leaders are blamed for kidnapping incidents, arguing that security challenges should not be viewed through a partisan lens.

Speaking on the issue, Makinde referenced the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, noting that Jonathan faced widespread criticism over the incident. He said he has similarly been held responsible for a kidnapping case in Oyo State, despite the broader role of security agencies in addressing such crimes.

The governor stressed that tackling insecurity requires collective responsibility and cooperation among federal, state, and local authorities rather than assigning blame based on political considerations. He maintained that addressing kidnapping and other security threats should remain a national priority.

Makinde also called for a balanced and objective approach to public discourse on security, urging stakeholders to focus on practical solutions that strengthen the country’s capacity to prevent and respond to criminal activities.

His remarks come amid continued concerns over kidnapping and other security challenges in various parts of Nigeria, with renewed calls for improved coordination among security agencies and government institutions.
