The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the management of ₦6.3 billion in constituency funds, warning that it may initiate legal proceedings if appropriate action is not taken.

The organization directed its demand to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, urging them to ensure transparency and accountability in the allocation and expenditure of the funds.

According to SERAP, a thorough review of the constituency allocations is necessary to determine whether public resources were utilized in accordance with the law and for the intended benefit of Nigerians. The group emphasized that accountability in public spending is essential to strengthening public confidence in government institutions.

SERAP argued that effective oversight of constituency projects is critical to preventing financial mismanagement and reducing opportunities for corruption. It maintained that public officials entrusted with managing government resources have a responsibility to ensure openness in the use of public funds.

The advocacy organization also warned that failure to initiate a credible investigation could result in legal action aimed at compelling compliance with principles of transparency and accountability.

The demand comes amid continued public debate over the management of constituency project funds and calls for stronger oversight mechanisms to ensure that budgetary allocations translate into meaningful development projects across the country.

SERAP reiterated that strengthening accountability in the administration of public finances is vital to promoting good governance and protecting the interests of citizens.

The organization said it will continue to monitor developments and push for measures that enhance transparency, prevent abuse of public resources, and reinforce integrity in Nigeria’s public financial management system.
