The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has directed all political appointees in the state to vacate their positions, marking a major restructuring within his administration.

The decision was announced in a statement from the Anambra State Government, which said the directive affects political office holders across various categories, including commissioners, special advisers, senior special assistants, and other aides appointed by the governor.

Government Restructuring

According to the statement, the move is part of the governor’s plan to reorganise the state government and improve administrative efficiency.

Affected appointees were asked to hand over to the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries or departments pending further directives from the government.

The directive effectively dissolves the current political structure within the executive arm of the state government as the administration prepares for a fresh round of appointments.

Appointees Asked to Reapply

Reports indicate that the governor also asked the affected officials to reapply if they wish to continue serving in the administration.

The process, according to government officials, is intended to allow the governor review the performance of his appointees and determine who may be retained or replaced in the next phase of the administration.

Focus on Governance Priorities

Governor Soludo, who assumed office in March 2022, has repeatedly emphasised his administration’s commitment to reforms in governance, infrastructure development, and economic transformation in Anambra State.

Political observers say the sweeping decision signals the governor’s intention to recalibrate his team and align the administration with its development agenda.

Further announcements regarding new appointments are expected in the coming weeks.
