Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government to ensure the safety and security of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku stressed the importance of protecting all political actors, warning that no harm should befall Obi as political activities gradually intensify across the country. He emphasized that every Nigerian, regardless of political affiliation, has the constitutional right to participate freely in the democratic process without intimidation or fear.

The former vice president said maintaining a peaceful political environment is essential to preserving Nigeria’s democracy and fostering public confidence in the electoral system. He urged the government and security agencies to uphold the rule of law by providing equal protection to all political leaders and their supporters.

His remarks come amid increasing political discussions ahead of the 2027 elections, with major political parties expected to begin consultations and preparations in the coming months.

Atiku reiterated that safeguarding opposition figures and ensuring peaceful political engagement are critical to conducting credible elections and strengthening democratic institutions in Nigeria.
