The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called for increased funding and improved welfare for its personnel as preparations gradually begin for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The commission stressed that adequate financial support is essential to strengthening electoral administration, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring the successful conduct of free, fair, and credible elections across the country.
According to INEC, sufficient funding would enable the commission to procure critical election materials, upgrade technological infrastructure, improve logistics, and effectively deploy personnel nationwide during the electoral process.
The commission also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of its workforce, noting that motivated and well-supported staff are crucial to maintaining professionalism, efficiency, and integrity throughout election planning and execution.
INEC stated that investment in staff welfare, including training, capacity building, and improved working conditions, would strengthen the commission’s ability to meet the increasing demands of managing nationwide elections.
The appeal forms part of the commission’s broader efforts to enhance electoral preparedness ahead of the 2027 polls. INEC believes that sustained government support through adequate budgetary allocations will help address operational challenges and reinforce public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process.
As preparations for the next election cycle gather momentum, the commission reiterated its commitment to delivering transparent, inclusive, and credible elections while urging stakeholders to support measures that will strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system.
