The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigerian citizens and business interests abroad amid growing concerns over xenophobic incidents targeting foreigners in some countries.
A presidential aide stated that the government will not tolerate actions that endanger the lives, dignity, or economic interests of Nigerians living or conducting business overseas. According to the aide, safeguarding citizens remains a top priority, with the government prepared to take appropriate diplomatic and legal steps where necessary.
The assurance comes against the backdrop of renewed concerns over attacks and hostility directed at foreign nationals, including Nigerians, in affected countries. The government emphasized that the welfare and security of its citizens abroad remain central to its foreign policy engagements.
Officials noted that Nigerian authorities are closely monitoring developments and maintaining communication with relevant diplomatic missions to ensure prompt responses to any threats involving Nigerian nationals or businesses.
The presidential aide stressed that Nigeria values peaceful international relations but expects the rights of its citizens and legitimate investments to be respected in accordance with international law and established diplomatic principles.
The government also encouraged Nigerians living abroad to remain law-abiding while staying in contact with Nigerian embassies and consulates for support whenever necessary.
Stakeholders have continued to call for stronger regional cooperation and sustained diplomatic engagement to address xenophobia, promote peaceful coexistence, and protect the rights of migrants and foreign business owners.
The Federal Government reiterated its resolve to defend Nigeria’s national interests while working with international partners to ensure that Nigerians abroad can live, work, and invest in safe and secure environments free from discrimination and violence.
