The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 12.2 tonnes of seized illicit drugs in Kano State as part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse across Nigeria.

The destruction exercise was conducted under official supervision to ensure the confiscated narcotics were permanently removed from circulation. According to the agency, the operation forms part of its strategy to prevent seized drugs from finding their way back into illegal markets.

NDLEA officials said the large-scale destruction underscores the agency’s commitment to enforcing Nigeria’s drug control laws and disrupting the activities of criminal networks involved in the production, distribution, and trafficking of illicit substances.

The exercise also reflects the agency’s broader campaign to reduce the availability of illegal drugs while promoting public safety and protecting communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse.

In recent years, the NDLEA has intensified intelligence-led operations, resulting in increased arrests, drug seizures, and the dismantling of trafficking syndicates across various parts of the country. The agency has also expanded public awareness campaigns aimed at discouraging drug abuse, particularly among young people.

Authorities emphasized that tackling the drug problem requires sustained collaboration between security agencies, communities, and other stakeholders to strengthen prevention, enforcement, and rehabilitation efforts.

The destruction of the 12.2 tonnes of illicit drugs represents another milestone in the NDLEA’s ongoing campaign against narcotics trafficking and reinforces its determination to deny criminal groups access to illegal drug markets.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining pressure on drug traffickers while continuing operations designed to safeguard public health and strengthen national security.
