Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the dismissal of a court case challenging the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling on political actors to refrain from using the judiciary to pursue partisan interests.

Commenting on the court’s decision, Atiku said the judiciary should remain an independent institution dedicated to the fair administration of justice rather than being drawn into political contests. He stressed the importance of preserving public confidence in the courts by allowing legal processes to operate free from political influence.

According to Atiku, political disagreements should be resolved through lawful and democratic means without turning the courts into arenas for partisan battles. He maintained that respect for judicial independence is essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

The former vice president welcomed the dismissal of the leadership suit and urged all stakeholders to accept judicial decisions in good faith while focusing on constructive political engagement.

His remarks come amid continuing discussions about the role of the judiciary in resolving disputes involving political parties and electoral matters.

Atiku reiterated that the rule of law remains fundamental to democratic governance and called on political leaders to uphold the integrity of the nation’s legal institutions by avoiding actions that could undermine their credibility.

The court’s ruling effectively brings the leadership dispute before it to a close, while reinforcing the judiciary’s role in adjudicating political matters based on the law and available evidence.

The development has renewed conversations about the need to protect judicial independence and ensure that legal processes are not used as instruments of political competition.
