Hockey expert Berhman has called for greater international exposure for Nigerian hockey clubs, stressing that regular foreign tours are essential to improving the standard of the sport in the country.
According to Berhman, competing against clubs from other countries would provide Nigerian players with valuable experience, expose them to different styles of play, and enhance their tactical and technical development.
He noted that while domestic competitions remain important, they are not sufficient on their own to prepare clubs for the demands of continental and international tournaments. Regular participation in overseas competitions, he said, would help bridge the gap between Nigerian hockey and more established hockey nations.
Berhman also urged sports administrators, the Nigeria Hockey Federation, and other stakeholders to prioritize funding and organizing international tours for club sides. He argued that such initiatives would contribute significantly to player development and raise the overall quality of hockey in Nigeria.
In addition to improving performance, he said increased international participation would provide Nigerian clubs with greater visibility, create networking opportunities, and attract potential partnerships that could support the growth of the sport.
The hockey expert maintained that sustained exposure to high-level competition would strengthen the confidence and competitiveness of Nigerian teams, enabling them to perform better in African championships and global competitions.
He expressed optimism that with the right investment and long-term planning, Nigerian hockey clubs could become more competitive internationally and contribute to the country’s success on the global stage.
Berhman concluded by encouraging all stakeholders to work together to create more opportunities for clubs to participate in international tournaments, describing foreign exposure as a critical step toward the long-term development of hockey in Nigeria.
