Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) official Christopher Green has described the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup as a “national embarrassment,” calling for urgent reforms to restore the country’s standing in international football.

Green expressed disappointment over Nigeria’s absence from football’s biggest tournament, arguing that a nation with the country’s rich football tradition should consistently compete on the global stage. He said the outcome reflects deeper issues that require immediate attention from football administrators and stakeholders.

According to the former football administrator, the setback should serve as a wake-up call for those responsible for managing the game in Nigeria. He stressed the need for a comprehensive review of football administration, player development, technical structures, and long-term planning to prevent similar disappointments in the future.

The Super Eagles’ failure to qualify has sparked widespread debate among fans, former players, and football stakeholders, with many calling for greater accountability and strategic reforms within Nigerian football.

Green maintained that rebuilding confidence in the national team will require decisive leadership, improved planning, and sustained investment in grassroots development to ensure the Super Eagles return to competing successfully at the highest level.
