Security operatives have arrested a man accused of impersonating a soldier to allegedly rob residents in Maiduguri, Borno State.

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly posed as a member of the Nigerian military to gain the confidence of unsuspecting victims before carrying out a series of robberies. His arrest followed security operations aimed at tackling criminal activities involving individuals falsely claiming to be security personnel.

Officials confirmed the arrest but did not release the suspect’s identity or disclose the number of victims allegedly affected. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the alleged offences and whether the suspect acted alone or with accomplices.

The incident has renewed concerns over criminals exploiting military identities to deceive members of the public and commit crimes. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to identifying and prosecuting individuals who impersonate security personnel for illegal activities.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant, verify the identities of individuals claiming to be security operatives when necessary, and promptly report suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
