The Nigeria Police Force has announced restrictions on movement across seven Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Rivers State ahead of the Rivers South-East by-election, as part of measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.

According to the police, the temporary restrictions will affect the movement of persons and vehicles within the designated LGAs during the period of the election. The measure is intended to enhance security, prevent disruptions, and create a conducive environment for voters to exercise their civic rights.

Security agencies have been directed to enforce the restrictions strictly while maintaining professionalism throughout the electoral exercise. The police noted that the move forms part of a broader security strategy designed to safeguard election materials, polling officials, and voters.

Residents of the affected LGAs have been urged to comply with the directives and cooperate with law enforcement personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the by-election. Essential service providers and individuals granted official exemptions are expected to adhere to guidelines issued by relevant authorities.

The police reassured members of the public of their commitment to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election, emphasizing that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to protect lives and property.

Election observers have noted that movement restrictions are commonly implemented during major electoral exercises to reduce security risks and prevent activities that could compromise the integrity of the voting process.

Authorities have encouraged citizens to remain peaceful, report suspicious activities, and participate in the electoral process in accordance with the law.

The security measures underscore ongoing efforts to ensure that the Rivers South-East by-election is conducted in a safe, orderly, and transparent manner.
