A senator representing Rivers State has urged Nigerian youths to prioritize skills acquisition as a practical pathway to economic empowerment, encouraging them to focus on self-development rather than dwelling on challenges.
Speaking on the importance of vocational and technical education, the lawmaker stressed that the current economic climate requires young people to equip themselves with marketable skills capable of creating employment opportunities and promoting financial independence.
The senator noted that while unemployment and economic hardship remain pressing concerns, continuous complaints alone would not provide lasting solutions. Instead, he encouraged young Nigerians to adopt a proactive mindset by learning practical skills that can help them build sustainable careers, establish businesses, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
According to the lawmaker, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and digital skills have become increasingly valuable in today’s economy, providing alternative sources of income beyond traditional white-collar employment. He emphasized that investing in personal development would better position youths to take advantage of emerging opportunities across various sectors.
The senator also called on government agencies, educational institutions, and private organizations to expand access to skills development programmes and create enabling environments for young people to thrive.
He concluded by encouraging Nigerian youths to remain resilient, embrace innovation, and continue investing in their personal growth, describing skills acquisition as a powerful tool for overcoming economic challenges and securing a brighter future.
