A South African minister has dismissed claims that the country plans to pay compensation to Nigerians, stating that the government has no intention of offering financial reparations over recent incidents involving Nigerian nationals.

The minister’s remarks came in response to comments attributed to Nigerian politician Shehu Sani, clarifying the South African government’s position on the matter. According to the minister, there is no official policy or agreement providing for compensation to Nigerians.

The statement comes amid ongoing diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and South Africa following concerns over the treatment of foreign nationals and broader issues affecting bilateral relations. While discussions between the two countries continue, South Africa has maintained that compensation is not under consideration.

The minister emphasized that the government’s focus remains on addressing issues through established diplomatic and legal channels rather than through financial settlements. The clarification was intended to dispel speculation surrounding possible compensation arrangements.

Despite the disagreement, both Nigeria and South Africa are expected to continue dialogue aimed at strengthening relations and resolving issues of mutual concern through diplomatic cooperation.

The development highlights the differing positions of both countries as efforts continue to manage tensions while preserving longstanding economic and diplomatic ties.
