Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed confidence ahead of the Black Stars’ opening match against Panama at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting his side is focused on securing a positive result in their first Group L fixture.

The Portuguese tactician, who took charge of Ghana in April, said the team is fully prepared for the challenge and remains concentrated on delivering a strong performance despite pre-tournament distractions. Queiroz believes a winning start would provide a significant boost to Ghana’s hopes of advancing to the knockout stages.

Ghana will face Panama in Toronto in a match widely viewed as crucial to the Black Stars’ chances of progressing from a group that also includes England and Croatia. A victory would place the four-time African champions in a strong position ahead of their remaining group-stage fixtures.

Queiroz, who is coaching at his fifth consecutive FIFA World Cup, has emphasized the importance of discipline, teamwork and taking advantage of scoring opportunities against a Panama side he described as experienced and well-organised.

The 73-year-old coach was appointed by the Ghana Football Association to lead the Black Stars at the tournament, bringing with him extensive World Cup experience gained with Portugal and Iran. Ghanaian fans will be hoping his expertise can guide the team to a successful campaign on football’s biggest stage.
