Unidentified hoodlums have reportedly attacked a Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centre in Osun State, making away with several voter cards in an incident that has raised concerns ahead of the forthcoming elections.
The attack occurred at a designated PVC collection point where eligible voters had gathered to collect their cards. Witnesses said the assailants disrupted activities at the centre before fleeing with an undisclosed number of PVCs.
The incident has heightened concerns over the security of electoral materials and the potential impact on the credibility of the election process in the state. Residents and stakeholders have called for increased security at PVC distribution centres to prevent similar occurrences.
Authorities are expected to investigate the attack, recover the stolen voter cards where possible, and identify those responsible. Election and security officials are also anticipated to strengthen protective measures at other collection centres across Osun State.
As of the time of publication, officials had not released further details on the number of PVCs stolen or announced any arrests in connection with the incident.
