Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has reiterated that agriculture should serve as the foundation for transforming Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy into a production-oriented one.
Speaking on his vision for the country’s economic development, Obi stressed that investing in agriculture would unlock Nigeria’s vast potential, create millions of jobs, improve food security, and reduce dependence on imported goods.
According to him, prioritizing the agricultural sector would stimulate industrial growth by supplying raw materials for local industries while boosting exports and increasing national productivity.
Obi maintained that Nigeria possesses the land, human resources, and favorable climate needed to become a leading agricultural producer. He argued that strategic investments in modern farming, agro-processing, and rural infrastructure would help diversify the economy and promote sustainable development.
The former Anambra State governor said shifting the nation’s focus from consumption to production is essential for achieving long-term economic stability, reducing unemployment, and improving the standard of living for Nigerians.
